The Eskimo population of Inuit were the first to train dogs to drag sleds and to use them for the transport.
This practice was used in Europe from the XI° until the XVIII° century.
In literature the sled dogs and the life of their “mushers” were magnificently told by Jack London and described in his beautiful stories.
Today the much used races of dogs are the Siberian Husky, the Alaskan Malamute, the Salmoied, the Greenlands, the Eskimo e the Anika Inu.
In the beginning they were simple “village dogs” which lived with Athabaska Indians and Inuits. Thanks to their excellent results in competitions that took place in Alaska, they were selected and in the course of time came up the Alaskan Husky.
